Our Souls Called While We Were House Hunting

Two years ago we started feeling the itch to move from our little country town up in the mountains of upstate New York. We put our house up for sale and took a trip to Asheville, NC certain that we knew where to go. We even put an offer on a house there.

But we were out bid and went home empty handed. Meanwhile only one couple had come to look at our house. So we decided to listen to the Universe calling to our Souls — telling us that the time and place weren’t right.

Flash forward to a few of months ago.

While we knew we were going to move, it wasn’t until three or four months ago that we began to know where we were going. We knew we needed to be in a large city again (having moved to the country from Santa Monica seven years ago) AND we knew we didn’t want to live in snow and ice ever again.

But where?

The answer began to arise within Jim. He got it that Las Vegas made the most sense. Not too large. Plenty of internet marketers living there. Dry heat rather than humidity.

So we took a trip there in late March and went house hunting. Nothing grabbed us.

Our realtor, referred by our friend Tom Justin who lives in Las Vegas, later brought us to her house for lunch. No big deal, right?

But get this. Her house was for sale at $200,000 more than we thought we could afford. And we liked it enough to look around And her deal broker husband showed us that the mortgage could be designed to make it realistic for us.

But her house wasn’t quite right. Neither was a house down the street from their’s with the same floor plan that was $70,000 less.

So again we left empty handed.

In our effort to make sense of it all, we got better educated by our accountant and a real estate attorney, and then we returned to Las Vegas last week – one month later – determined to find “the house.”

But the first day out was less than promising. In and out of ten houses in our new price range, with three sort-of-maybe if only-it were-different houses to show for our travels.

Then the next morning our realtor told us that she’d just discovered a house around the corner from hers that was put on the market just six days earlier.

As soon as we walked in we knew. Yet it wasn’t just the floor plan, which was similar to our realtor’s house. I’t wasn’t the special desert landscaping in front. And it certainly wasn’t the pool and jaccuzzi  - which we’d said we didn’t want – only to realize that it was beautiful and we loved the mature landscaping with huge rose bushes and tall palm trees.

What was it? What was it, really?

It was “our” house. We could feel it. We knew it. We loved it. And it loved us.

So now we needed to buy the house. And at the same time our current house didn’t have a buyer.

Yet, we knew we needed to buy this house.

So we agreed to the asking price, even less than the house down the street from our realtor’s.  And we asked for the fabulous large dark purple overstuffed love seat, sofa, chair and ottoman in the family room – which would take forever to replace with something equally perfect for the space. AND we asked for a sixty day escrow, even though we needed at least ninety days for our comfort to avoid carrying two mortgages.

Now this is the kind of thing that happens when your Soul is calling.

The seller accepted all of our terms except the closing.

Instead, she asked for a thirty day closing and she asked to rent the house back from us for 60-90 days after escrow closes. She gets to stay and we’re saved from carrying two mortgages.

A miracle! A two-way miracle!

She sold her house in one week with a thirty-day close. She needed that to buy a house from someone who won’t deal with her until there’s firm evidence of her house selling.

And we get a ninety day moratorium on our own move so our buyer can show up in a timely manner.

That’s the kind of flowing mystery and miracle that occurs when your soul is calling.

And, oh by the way, we still don’t really know why we’re moving to Las Vegas. We just
know we have to go. Our souls told us so!

    Congratulations you two!!!

I love how you listen to your collective souls. You are both brave enough and curious enough to take action without needing the “why” to satisfy the minds craving for reasons and justifications. Your answer to our minds question, “Why?” seems to be simply, “BE Cause.”

I eagerly await the further adventures your Souls have waiting for you!

    Love you both,
    Alex
